One of the live auction items at our Kentucky Derby Pre-Party fundraiser is unique and holds special meaning: It's made by a Job Foundation student and his mentor.
Mentorship opens the door for students to step outside of their comfort zones and try something new. At the Job Foundation, one way we make this possible is through our partnership with Cedar Valley Makers, where students can explore hands-on learning in the Makerspace in Waterloo. From woodworking and fabrication to experimenting with a 3D printer, students are given the opportunity to create, build, and discover new interests.
One of our students, Soe, has been doing just that. With the guidance of his mentor, Mike, Soe has been diving into woodworking and developing his creativity through hands-on projects. He has already completed several pieces, including a beautifully crafted planter.
When asked about his experience, Soe shared, “I enjoy going to the Makerspace. It can be a little loud and messy, but if you enjoy arts and crafts and want to take it to the next level, I would definitely recommend it.”
The Kentucky Derby Pre-Party Fundraiser will take place on April 30th at 6:45 p.m.
