A New Road Ahead:

Everyone remembers learning how to drive. We remember the first time we got behind the wheel. Maybe it was in a parking lot, on a family farm, or on a quiet gravel road. (For me, it was at a garbage dump.)

We also remember how we felt during those first driving experiences. Some of us were excited about the freedom and independence that driving would bring. Others may have felt nervous or anxious about taking on such a big responsibility.

Whether the experience was exciting or intimidating, learning to drive is an important step toward adulthood. Having a driver's license provides students with greater independence and more opportunities to travel, work, and take ownership of their responsibilities.

At the Job Foundation, obtaining a driver's license is one of the requirements for seniors before they receive their earnings. Having reliable transportation and a valid license can open doors to employment opportunities, leadership roles, and greater self-sufficiency. Because we want our students to have the best possible chance for success, we work alongside them as they complete this important milestone.

This year, our graduate Avari achieved her driver's license. Over the past year, she has spent countless hours learning to drive with support from members of the Job Foundation team and her family. Through her hard work, determination, and commitment to completing the Job Foundation checklist, Avari successfully earned her license and has now received her earnings.

Guess what Avari plans to buy with her earnings? You guessed it - a reliable used vehicle!   She will be putting her new driving skills to good use.

Congratulations, Avari! We are proud of your accomplishment and excited to see where the road ahead takes you.

Avari receiving her earnings.
Avari receiving her earnings.
